Bobby Hansson has made artwork from found objects for over forty years. His work has been exhibited at the American Craft Museum, Renwick Museum (Smithsonian), and Oakland Museums, plus many galleries and schools. He has also taught Art classes at Arrowmont, Brookfield, Eastern North Carolina University and the 92nd Street Y. This three-day workshop will offer the opportunity to develop multiple ideas that can be realized in tin and other found objects and at least one finished project (at least one day will be spent with Mr. Hansson). The goals of the workshop are to promote an understanding of the term Outsider Artist and the use of found materials. We hope to encourage confidence in experimentation, understanding the potential of new materials as a stimulus for creativity, mastering skills with a new material, and promoting a playful attitude toward the creative process with a new material. Participants can bring any of the following: tin and aluminum cans (especially ones with imagery - look for olive oil tins, cookie tins, herb tins etc.) We will have some free tins, as well as some available for purchase. You may bring thin sheet metal of any kind, wire (steel or aluminum - multiple sizes) and any other objects that intrigue or inspire.

Many of the dances recreate "old ways"; the hunting of buffalo, the traditional gathering and social interactions between tribes. Some drumming traditions reach back millennia where others take their cues from modern popular culture. Dancers, drummers and storytellers all preserve a treasured part of our American cultural heritage.

This two-day workshop focuses on helping teachers formulate unit plans for integrated curriculum. Guided work sessions will also address grant writing to support an in-school residency using DIAE’s arts repertory and these unit plans. Teachers will concentrate on specific skills pertaining to effective writing and literacy within the arts themselves, as well as an understanding of cultural artifacts and the ability to interpret and create them. These skills are tied to the summer sessions repertory, so they do not stand alone as workshops without attendance at one of the previous DIAE repertory-based workshops. There is a $50 registration fee for each day.
